I Decide: Young women’s journeys to seek abortion care This case study focuses on how the programme has built the knowledge and skills of young adolescents and linked them to integrated SRHR and HIV services. The project supports young key populations: young people living with HIV, young people who sell sex, young men who have sex with men and young people who are vulnerable to HIV, including truck drivers, boda-boda riders and fisher folk Although sex work is not illegal in Ethiopia, sex workers have long faced stigma and discrimination that impedes their ability to access sexual and reproductive health services (SRH) and information, legal protection, equal economic opportunities and community acceptance. This case study explores the work of Link Up implementing partner the Nikat Charitable Association, in supporting young women who sell sex and, in particular, the use of a radio programme to combat stigma and discrimination. The Link Up project has put 10-24 year olds most affected by HIV in Bangladesh, Burundi, Ethiopia, Mynamar and Uganda at the centre of integrated HIV and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programming and policy debates at a local, national and international level, which has been critical to changing the structural factors that compound young people’s vulnerability to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. The Link Up project in Uganda works with four implementing partners to provide integrated sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and HIV services to young people living with and most affected by HIV. Integrating care has generated both opportunities and challenges for young people and service providers.
